Above and Beyond Fly Day Kids Event
Fly Day 2024: Empowering Special Needs Children to Soar at Scottsdale Airport
Pinnacle Aviation was thrilled to once again take part in Fly Day, an annual event organized by Above & Beyond USA. This inspiring day provides special-needs children with the unique opportunity to take an airplane ride around the city, empowering them with confidence-building flight experiences.
Held this year at Scottsdale Airport, Fly Day offered transformative and uplifting moments for kids while engaging dedicated volunteers, pilots, and members of the Arizona aviation community.
For over 10 years, Ken Casey, Director of Aircraft Sales & Acquisitions at Pinnacle Aviation, has been an essential part of Fly Day’s success. Not only has he played a key role in organizing the event since its inception, but he also serves as a pilot, flying several children in his own Cirrus airplane. When asked how he became involved with Fly Day, Ken shared, “When I was approached years ago, I jumped at the chance to give back and help less fortunate children through the gift of flight.”
This year’s event was made possible by the dedication and leadership of Steve Snyder, the main organizer of Fly Day. His vision and efforts brought together an incredible community of volunteers and resources. Pinnacle Aviation was proud to see 10 of our employees volunteering—the highest turnout we’ve ever had.
Joining Ken Casey were 30 volunteer pilots, including key contributions from Sierra Charlie Flight School, which provided 6 airplanes, and the University of North Dakota, which contributed 2 airplanes. In total, 20 aircraft were made available to provide unforgettable flight experiences for the kids.
The shared effort created an uplifting and memorable day for each child who signed up to explore the skies and feel the thrill of flight. The joy and wonder sparked by the experience were evident. One child, stepping off a flight, declared, “It was the greatest day of my life.” Moments like this reflect the powerful impact Fly Day has on building self-esteem and confidence in the children it serves.
Fly Day’s legacy spans years and locations, having been previously hosted at airports such as Deer Valley and Mesa Gateway. Each year, Above & Beyond USA, a certified 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, brings together a community of pilots, veteran advocates, and donors to make this experience possible. Together, they strive to uplift and inspire by turning dreams of flight into reality.
